Upgrade the stack you already run
Framework upgrades, database moves, monitoring, security checks, delivery pipelines, and AI in the tools your team already opens. We start from the stack you already run.
Discover the Lab
Developer Lab stays with the system you already have. The useful change is the one the people who run it can still explain after we leave the room.
We begin with what is already live: the version in production, the data the reports depend on, and the path a change takes on an ordinary day. A new tool has to earn a place beside the habit the team already trusts.
Ownership stays with you. The keys stay with the team. The work ends on a normal Tuesday, with the notes left where the team already looks.
Developer Lab is one person, Puya Sarmidani. The person who reads your first email is the person who does the work.
The stack stays yours.
AI solutions
AI integration in the screen you already open.
A separate chat is not the solution. The model sits in a step the team already uses, such as a draft, a sort, or a summary. A person still checks any answer that would matter if it were wrong.
How an AI feature ships
- We pick the screen and the input that already exist.
- The prompt, the context, and the failure case are written next to the code.
- The feature ships behind a switch, so it can be turned off without a deploy.
- Logs show what the model proposed and what a person kept.
Eighteen practices, from a code audit to the first version of a new product.
The work we take on.What we do
Framework upgrades
An old Symfony, Laravel, or React app can stay where it is. The work is a path through versions, tests, and the parts the product still depends on.

MySQL can stay until the types, the queries, or the host stop fitting. PostgreSQL is the move when constraints should be strict and the rest of the stack needs room.

A job can fail for a week if nobody is watching the log. Monitoring is how that silence turns into a message a person can act on.
Read more about MonitoringCode audit
A change is safer after someone has read the code around it. The audit is that reading, written so the next edit has a map.

Most teams do not need another tool tour. They need a clear yes or no on the work a model can actually take, and a first trial that fits the week.

A model in a demo is not a solution. The useful version lives in the screen your team already opens, and it knows when to stop and ask a person.

A small team can share a folder and a chat thread. A larger one needs a branch, a ticket, and a rhythm that shows what is in progress.
Read more about Git, Jira, and ScrumSecurity check
The useful check starts with the doors that are already open: an admin path, a token in a repo, a dependency with a known hole.
Read more about Security checkSEO scan
A scan that only produces a score is unfinished. The useful part is the title, the heading, and the slow page you then change.

An all-round website upgrade treats the public site as one system. The theme, the forms, the speed, and the search basics move together.

Docker is the box, Kubernetes is where it runs, and Argo CD is how a reviewed commit reaches the cluster. We add them when the team is ready to operate them.

A pipeline that only one person can start is a script with extra steps. CI/CD counts when a branch runs the checks and a merge can ship.

Working with AI is a set of habits. What you paste, what you check, and what you never send matter more than the model name.

A proof of concept should answer one question and still be buildable afterward. We bring the idea to life on a slice of the real problem, not a slide.

A startup does not need a platform on day one. It needs a solution shaped around the sale it is already trying to make.

The first weeks decide whether year two is calm. Starting right means a repo, a way to run it, and a slice of product that is already real.

A monolith turns sour when every change shares one deploy. We split it where the boundary is already obvious, and we leave the rest in one piece.

Keycloak fits when people sign in to more than one app. One login, the roles you already have, and no second password to invent.

Platforms and products
Journey Lanes, ProductAlert, and LatinMap are products of Developer Lab. AHK and Kio are community platforms built by Developer Lab, both in pilot. CAO-Assist checks employee data against a Dutch CAO. WijMobiel is a mobility platform for public transport in the social domain.
AHK
A community platform for the Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten, in pilot. Communities with discussions, documents, and events, a knowledge square, and a network map of colleagues.

Describe how people move through a product, in plain language. Journey Lanes draws one lane per role and runs that path against a mock built from the code.

Employee data checked against a Dutch CAO, the collective labour agreement a company follows: salary, hours, leave, pension, and allowances.

A mobility platform for public transport for vulnerable groups in the social domain, offered together with municipalities and social organisations.

Leave itwith the team
The work ends when the people who run the system can make the next change without us in the room.
Each of these four ends with something the team keeps and uses on its own.
The practice stays.
What the team keeps
Five questions we ask at the start of the work, and what we do with the answer.
Questions we askbefore we change it.
Which version is running?Framework upgrades
Name the version you run and the behavior that must survive: checkout, sign-in, the admin, and the job after midnight.
Start with an email
ContactWrite to us with the stack you run, what needs to change, and what must keep working while it does. A version number and a link to the repository or the site are enough to begin.
The reply comes from the person who will do the work. If a practice is a poor fit for what you describe, the reply says so.
